WRITER:
As a writer, Tianna would rate my writing ability as average for her age and grade level. She used to really enjoy english, then Tianna realised she can’t accept criticism with a positive attitude. Tianna still writes but only because she has to, in high school she's mostly written book reports or how she relates to a situation in a story or book. At home or outside of school tianna doesn't write a lot, actually hardly at all unless its homework. She types on twitter, but its basically just a short few words about what's going on during my day or how She's feeling. In her freshman year of high school & part of sophomore year she was internally excited when she was assigned a writing assignment, because she liked to write, especially about her life or unique experiences she's had. The only thing that really makes Tianna lean towards not liking english is not having a choice in what I read, in the past couple years a few of the books she's read, she really didn’t like, which made it harder to write about the book without getting frustrated.
Last school year in English 10 b she had to write a memoir, in the process of writing the paper she had four different people read & edit the paper, also she did so myself. She turned in her paper, and she was almost sure she got an A, maybe not 100% but an A nonetheless. Well, if she remembered correctly I got an 87% things like that, make me not want to pursue english. This is year she decided, she needed to work harder, and maybe take a 3rd look at my paper to try and improve it, if thats what it takes. To be honest, some of her teachers have not been the greatest, but regardless of that the work belongs to tianna, and could only improve with her decision to do so. People are always telling me you never stop learning, and even though she's like beyond a 100% sure that she doesn't need some of the classes she has to take, she's willing to go that extra mile for english , this year.
As for basic essay requirements, some things are a little different but for the most part the teachers will ask for the same thing. For example 11 point font, Times New Roman or Calibri, something simple. Another thing is the paragraphs are expected to be indented and I’ve discovered even in informal writing, if you do that just because, they really like that you put in the 1 second of work it takes to press the tab button. Grammar, I think compared to certain people, it looks like wonderful, but in reality it’s called an education. Spelling wise, she's always been fairly good at, I used be in spelling bee’s looking back, I’m kind of a nerd.
READER:
As a reader I think, that I really enjoy reading books that have real life situations. I’ve always been good at reading, although I haven’t been interested in it for a while. In school I read mostly because I have to, unless I get a choice like SSR. And just throwing it out there that I think they should change-up the novels were required to read, I mean I’m sure a teacher gets tired of reading the same book over and over. Outside of school I read a lot of online stuff, for example Twitter and Facebook like most people my age. In middle school, I read a lot like the Harry Potter and Twilight series. It seems like it takes a lot for me to find a book that i’m interested in. If I’m reading books that could happen to me in a certain situation, I always wonder how I would react. In the course of a year I’d say I read maybe 2-3 books by choice and not school mandatory. The last book I read was The Color Purple by Alice Walker. That book, I can honestly say was one of the most emotional books I’ve ever read, but I’m glad I did because it was a good book.
My favorite book is, in all honesty a childrens book called Corduroy mainly because my grandpa used to read it to me every night before I went to sleep and now that he’s gone it’s a good memory that I have. My favorite author? I don’t think I really have a favorite just for the fact that, at this point in my life I’m not too much of a reader, so I can’t really choose. But, I can say in 8th I was all about Stephanie Meyer, just because I was a twilight fan and I was super interested in know anything and everything about the series. When i’m reading and there is a word I don’t understand, I do try to find it’s meaning, I don’t always remember but, i'm not really focussed on vocabulary at that point really just trying to make it through the book. I guess I could start doing that, so I could sound more intelligent when I speak, something my Father would be fond of. He sometimes says “the smarter you sound, the smarter you seem.”
It’s important because it can improve your reading and writing skills, just by picking up a maagzine, once a week or reading a blog. There's probably tons of of words out there that you have no idea they even exist. And it’s nice to know good describing words you can use in case you need to write an essay or a letter. Or something as simple as a conversation. Also, you might like it there are people in this world that really love to read and they find it fun or maybe relaxing. So pick up a book, you might have a new passion, maybe you’re even a bookworm.
